Admissions

Policy and Procedure

Elmwood Franklin School is comprised of three divisions: a Pre-primary or “Prep” Department (Prep I and Prep II), a Lower School (grades 1-4), and an Upper School (grades 5-8). Kathleen McIntyre, Interim Lower School Head, oversees both the Prep Department and the Lower School. Rosemarie Beres is Assistant Head/Head of Upper School and coordinates the Upper School program.

Elmwood Franklin School is an inclusive community that values diversity. Elmwood Franklin does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, or economic status. Applicants are accepted on the basis of academic achievement, aptitude and behavioral development.

To begin the admissions process, an Admissions Application must be completed for each child and returned to the Admissions Office along with a $50 nonrefundable processing fee. Each child then will be scheduled for an Admissions Screening Assessment. Generally, on the day of testing, the child is asked to spend the entire day at Elmwood Franklin School and will be assigned to “shadow” in a class at his/her current grade level. This shadowing opportunity gives the child a chance to assess the school and his or her potential future classmates and enables the school to space out the testing for a more enjoyable experience. Prospective Prep students are not asked to stay the full day and are only required to spend approximately one to two hours at the school in the morning.

Families will be notified of the test results by the Admissions Office. Written correspondence will follow. If the child is accepted to EFS, an Enrollment Contract will be mailed along with the letter of acceptance. This contract must be signed by the parent(s)/guardian and returned to the school with the appropriate deposit by the specified date. When a copy of the contract is signed by our Headmaster, your child is enrolled in Elmwood Franklin School.
